Pond-storming: Your ideas and wants

5 Posted October 26, 2010 by George Categories: Company News

Hello, tadpoles.

Here’s a question for you.

You know we’ve collected some of the coolest designers and coders to bring you the best WordPress themes in like, evah, right? Yeah, we love you too… But do you guys know who are the best, most inventive, most cool-ly critical creatives around? Why, YOU are! That’s right, YOU!

The amazing, cool uses that you’ve found for the themes we make, just blows us away, all.the.time. And so, we’re always (but especially today) keen to hear from you with ideas and wish-lists for new themes. What YOU’d like to see in our themes, or even ideas of KINDS of themes you’d like to see.

So today, let’s pond-storm. Rules of pond-storming:

  1. Pretty much anything goes, but we ARE talking about WordPress themes, so..
  2. All ideas get an equal shot. There are no bad ideas. No-one’s idea gets rubbished at this pond.
  3. We don’t dimiss any idea. Sometimes freaky-cool things happen when idea 76 combines in a splashy way, with idea 3.
  4. If you build on an idea, give it credit for the inspiration. That’s just being nice. We will too.

Leave your ideas/suggestions in the comments, and we’ll give them a think-around.

Annnnnnnnd…GO!

I’d like to see more typography based themes! I don’t understand why most typography based themes are always in black and white…they could have colourful words right?

I’d be your mascot if you build this!

Of course they could Bev… Thanks for the (valid) input. You know you’ll have to wear a frog-suit, right? :)

I second the Typography theme idea.

Also some unique application themes would be cool too. Like iPhone Apps, Product Launches, “Coming Soon” Themes etc.

I would like to see some themes going back to basics and also completely non blogging themes. I know this is crazy but WordPress has is almost managed to shake that “blogging-only” stigma that surrounds it and I think a couple of well thought out CMS themes will do the trick.

I would personally like to see a theme that caters for full page customization, not just the content area. The sidebar is a crucial area specifically on a smaller site and editing this on a per page basis is almost always a nightmare. Obviously the end game is that the theme user can easily update the pages without getting their hands dirty in code :)

An e-commerce theme. But more than that – include the backend code to handle products, stock levels and so on from within the WP Admin interface.

There are free e-commerce plugins out there, but integrating them seamlessly into an e-commerce theme is a bit of a nightmare.
